What is a database used for?
Databases are used for information storage.
What do databases use to store information?
Databases store and organize information in fields, records and files.
What are relational databases?
Relational databases allow users to access, update, and search information based on the relationship of data stored in different tables.
In relational databases, the tables of information are related through what?
Databases consist of multiple tables of information that are related through common field.
If you need to "crunch" relatively small volumes of numbers to analyze numeric data, what type of programming/application should you use?
When you want your data organized in a format that you can easily query, what kind of application should you use?
Explain what spreadsheets are, the benefits of them and the negative aspects of spreadsheets.
Spreadsheet Advantages: Easy to learn and use. Good for storing and "crunching" small volumes of numerical data. Presents numerical data in graphical form to quickly analyze data.
Spreadsheet Disadvantages: Records and files may have redundant data. Simplistic storing and querying capabilities. Files can contain only a finite number of records. Changes to data are made in computer memory and are not saved until the file is saved.
Explain what a database is, the benefits of a database and the negative aspects of a database.
Database Advantages: Multiple people can use the same data simultaneously. The data can be protected against inadvertent corruption. You no longer need to keep redundant data. A database can hold many records as desired until you reach its gigabyte storage limit. Changes to data are saved immediately.
Database Disadvantages: More difficult to learn and use. System are complex, difficult and time-consuming to design relational tables. Software/hardware costs are higher.
What is "Big Data?"
Big data is a large set of data that can be analyzed to reveal patterns and trends and is too big to store in a typical Database program like Access.
What is Microsoft Office's database software called?
Explain how Google, or any other search engine, uses a database.
Search engines holds a big database with information on the webpages which can be accessed by query.
