Module B Medical Assistant
A scientific study of microorganism.
Are tiny living plants and animals that cannot be seen with a naked eye, they are find almost everywhere.
Nondisease-producing (nonpathogenic) microorganisms.
Normal floral fauna. Can be found on surface of the skin, GI track, Respiratory tack and urinate track.
Lives in the collan, lower GI track.
Invation and multiplication of pathogens microorganisms in the body. They inbade, multiply and cause sickness. No infection will occur if the skin is intact.
Syptoms of Infection
Heat, redness, sweelling and pain
Any disease causing organism.
3 Different forms of bacteria
Cocci, bacilli and spirilla
Round shape bacteria, diplo - round and in pair.
Cocci will cause
Strepto Bacteria will cause
strept throat, scarlet pneumonia
Staphy/o Bacteria (skin)
Mucous membrane infection
Rod shaped and ocur singgly, in pairs, and chains.
Bacilla Bacteria causes
Typhoid, diphtheria, anthrax, TB.
What can Bacilla Bacteria form?
Bacilli can form hard walled capsules (spores) and are difficult to kill.
Are spiral or corkscrew shaped.
Spirilla Bacteria causes
Lyme disease, syphilis, cholera, spirochete, bloody diarrhea.
They are the smallest of all microorganism and are visible only when viewed under an electron microscope.
Where can Viruses reproduce?
Can only reproduce within living cells and they can live for many, many years befo
Can antibiotic heal viruses?
No, antibiotic can do anything towards viruses.
Causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
Infectious organism that needs a host to live or survive.
3 Forms of Parasites
eggs, larba and adult form of it.
What are rickettsiae?
Are parasites that need a host to survive, so they cannot live outside the body.
How small are rickettsiae parasites?
They are smaller than bacteria.
How does rickettsiae parasites are carried?
They are carried by fleas, lice, ticks, and mites. When these insects bite, the rickettsiae can be transmitted into the human body.
Microorganisms that feed on organic material. include yeast and molds.
Where can fungi lives?
They can live on decompsing matter and within or on the body (vaginal yeast infections, athlete's foot).
Fungus infection, develops very slowly and they are high resisted to treatment.
