Sound waves travel through solids the best because the materials will allow compressions to travel quickly through it . the energy waves will travel faster because in solids the molecules are tightly held together but they still have enough energy kinetic energy to vibrate back and forth. The structure keeps them moving so that they quickly bounce back into place after the compressions and rarefactions of the sound waves have passed Where with liquids the particles they are moreloose and are not all the way packed together they keep rolling over one another. This keeps the molecules from bouncing back into one another. With Gas, because the molecules are so loosely packed together they have total freedom of movement and do not bounce back and forth than that of a solid.

The typical decibel of thunder is usually 120 decibel and a jet engine is 170 decibels the intensity of sound is the amount of energy a sound wave carries. Hearing loss can happen usually around 120 decibels.
