Alternative Energy

Alternative Energy
Energy produced by means other than the burning of fossil fuels.
Renewable Resources
Materials from Earth that can be replaced by nature within a relatively short period of time, such as trees.
Nonrenewable Resources
Materials from Earth that cannot be replaces within a reasonable amount of time, such as oil, coal, and natural gas.
The careful use of natural resources (such as trees, oil, etc.) to prevent them from being lost or wasted.
To produce something or cause something to be produced.
Hydroelectric Energy
A renewable source of energy based on the natural movement of water.
Geothermal Energy
Energy that comes from the natural heat inside the Earth.
Solar Energy
Energy that comes directly from the sun.
Carbon-based fuel made from recently produced Biomass (wood, waste, corn stalks, Etc.).
Wind Energy
Energy that comes from changing the power of moving air into electricity.
Wind Turbine
a turbine having a large wheel rotated by the wind to generate electricity.
Solar Panel
a panel designed to absorb the sun's rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating.
