What were the three great preparation statements of Alma 5, (see Alma 5:6-7) and
why are they important in our lives today?
(1) have you sufficiently retained in remembrance the captivity of your fathers? (2) have you sufficiently remembered his mercy and long suffering towards them? (3) have you sufficiently retained in remembrance that he has delivered their souls from hell?
This is important in our lives because the fathers in the BOM are OUR fathers as well. These statements apply to us as well. We should remember this.
How does D&C 101:1-8) tie in with our Book of Mormon discussions?
This deals with the pride cycle. People are prosperous and forget the Lord. God chastens them, and they turn to God and are humble again.
Why is gratitude often the hardest of virtues to practice, especially at the holiday season? (Thought question); How can we relate this to the Anti-Nephi-Lehis' philosophy? See also Alma 7:23-24.
It's easy to get caught up in what we want and forget to be grateful for the small sentimental and meaningful gifts people give. Anti-Nephi-Lehi's going in to the land of Jershon, land of the Nephites. At first, they did not want to go because they worried that the people would hate them, because they used to plunder their towns. It must have been a difficult and touching experience to find out that the Nephites had not only forgiven them, but were willing to give up land and make sacrifices to protect them.
Name three principles you have learned from the Book of Mormon that will stay with you for a lifetime.
Timing matters...have you read Elder Oak's talk in the Ensign on "Timing?"
Message: Have an eternal perspective. Things will work out in the end. Work on God's time, not your own.
Have you read December 2000 Ensign on President Hinckley's comments on Joseph Smith?
Here's the link!
Some points from the talk:
1. The great depth of our Father in Heaven's love for us is shown in the gift of His Only Begotten Son, who was sent to bring hope into our hearts.
2. Nothing is so wonderful, so majestic, so tremendous as the Lord's great act of Atonement, wherein He suffered that we might be resurrected and live eternally.
3. Our joy at this wonderful season is because He came into the world and offers us His peace and infinite love.
What can we learn from the Amulonite and Amalekite apostate philosophy? (Alma 21:3; 24:30; 43:6; 47:36)
That it is worse to be enlightened by the Spirit and know things of righteousness and THEN fall away into sin than it is to sin having never known the Spirit or righteousness.
What was the cause of King Lamoni's father's astonishment? (Alma 20:26-27)
He was amazed that Ammon had no desire to destroy him and that Ammon had great love for Lamoni and that all Ammon wanted was the freedom of his brethren.
What six questions will the Savior ask us (especially Priesthood holders) when we step across the veil? It actually works also for wives/mothers...think of Pres. David O. McKay 1965.

3.What have you done with your talents?
4.How have you been of service to others in your church assignments?

A "type" of Christ is something that represents Christ. Things with Christ like attributes, that we look to that contain characteristics of Christ.
(1) Liahona: if you live the gospel, the "Liahona" will point you in the right direction; like Christ, the Liahona will guide you; two principles that govern the Liahona are faith and diligence, which are Christ-like attributes
(2) Bread and water represent the flesh and blood of Christ
(3) Brass plates
(4) Life of Abinadi
(5) The Brass serpent of Moses
(6) Law of Moses
Why is Alma 7:23 the "quiet dignity" scripture? What must we always return to God when we receive these things? Why is this scripture so hard for missionaries to learn/understand?
Scripture with 8 keys of life. We must give thanks. It is hard to give thanks because of pride. It is easier to be prideful than humble.
Where do you see the word "continuously?"
Lehi's dream: 1 Nephi 8:30
30 But, to be short in writing, behold, he saw other multitudes pressing forward; and they came and caught hold of the end of the arod of iron; and they did press their way forward, continually (?) holding fast to the rod of iron, until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree.
