The physics of terminal velocity using sky diving as an example.
Terms in this set (5)
Initial jump from the plane
-Large downwards force from gravity, little drag, therefore acceleration.
One minutes after initial jump ..
-Decreased resultant force due to increased drag force.
-Little acceleration slightly increasing velocity.
Three minutes after initial jump..
-The downwards force from gravity now equals the drag force.
-No more acceleration, therefore TERMINAL VELOCITY.
Releasing of the parachute
-Resultant force upwards, therefore the force of acceleration is also upwards
-Decreased velocity but still acting downwards
Three minutes after releasing the parachute
-The weight and the force of drag equal once again
-TERMINAL VELOCITY reached once again
