Carbohydrate

Compound
A substance consisting of two or more elements in a fixed ratio.
Chemical reaction
Chemical transformation or change; the interaction of chemical substances.
Glucose
Sugar; a simple form of carbohydrate.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of a stable internal environment by an organism. Example: temperature
Lipid
One of a family of compounds including fats, phospholipids and steroids that are insoluble in water.
Nutrient
A substance that is needed by the body to maintain life and health.
Protein
Large molecules composed of one or more long chains of amino acids and are an essential part of all living things.
Chemical Indicator
A substance that changes color to indicate or show the presence of a particular compound.
Covalent Bond
A type of chemical bond where two atoms share one or more pairs of valence electrons.
Element
The smallest particle of a substance that retains all the properties of the substance and i s composed of one or more atoms.
Ionic Bond
A chemical bond resulting from the attraction between oppositely charged ions.
Molecule
Two or more atoms held together by covalent bonds.
