Muscle Tissue
A body tissue that contracts or shortens, making body parts move.
Nervous Tissue
a body tissue that carries electrical messages back and forth between the brain and every other part of the body
Connective Tissue
A body tissue that provides support for the body and connects all of its parts.
Epithelial Tissue
covers the surfaces of your body, inside and out. i.e. Skin
Organ system
a group of organs that work together to perform a major function
Digestion
the process by which the body breaks down food into small nutrient molecules
Kidney
organ that removes urea, excess water, and other waste products from the blood
Nephron
Small filtering structure found in the kidneys that removes wastes from blood and produces urine
Urinary Bladder
a sacklike musccular organ that stores urine until it is eliminated from the body.
Pathogen
An organism that causes disease
Antibody
a protein produced by a B cell of the immune system that destroys pathogens
Immunity
the body's ability to destroy pathogens before they can cause disease
Homeostasis
the maintenance of stable internal conditions in spite of changes in the external environment
Stress
the reaction of a person's body to potentially threatening, challenging, or disturbing events
