Wellness refers to physical and psychological health, including personal well-being and attainment of personal growth.
Social Justice (7 core values)
can be defined as the fair, equitable allocation of resources, opportunities, obligations, and power in society as a whole. it is central to some definitiions of com psych.
Empowerment and Citizen Participation
Fundamental to com psych- perspective is the consideration of power dynamics in dividual relationships, organizations, and communities. Empowerment is aimed toward enhancingn the possibilites for people to control their own lives.
Emphasizes democratic processes.
Collaboration & Community Strengths (7 core values)
-Most distinctive value
-long emphasized in the fields involving relationships between com psych and citizens with the process of their work
- psychologists usually relate to community members as experts; reserachers, clinical or educational prof and organizational consultants. That creates a hierarchical, unequal relationship of expert and client- useful in some context but not for com. psych.
-Incorporates life experience, wisdom, passionate zeal, social netwoks, etc that already exist in a community. Building no these strenghts is often the best pathway to overcome problems.
Empirical Grounding (7 core values)
refers to the integrating research with community action, basing (grounding) action in empirical research findings whenever possible.
