Med Surg Exam 1 Notes from Slides Module 1
Terms in this set (9)
The main goal of hemodynamic monitoring
improve Cardiac output
What is required to deliver oxygen to the tissues and organs?
Normal CO at rest?
What is CO?
HR x SV
As the HR increases diastolic time changes, there is more or less time for ventricles to fill?
Drugs that would decrease CO
beta adrenergic or calcium channel blockers, or heart dysrhythmias (heart blocks), severe tachycardia ( causes decrease in stroke volume)
Tachycardia does what to cardiac oxygen demands and what to stroke volume?
Increases oxygen demands and increases workload of the heart and decreases stroke volume because there is less time for the ventricles to fill
If SV decreases what does HR do?
Increases to maintain CO
The stroke volume is affected by three factors:
Preload, afterload, and contractility
