motion
when the distance between an object and a stationary reference point is changing
distance
how far an object moves from a reference point, the SI unit of length or distance is the meter (m)
displacement
the distance and direction of an object's change in position from the starting point.
speed
the distance an object travels per unit of time.
average speed
the total distance traveled divided by the total time of travel.
instantaneous speed
the speed of an object at a given point in time. Ex: speedometer data
derived units
units of measurement that are created from base units via dimensional analysis. Ex: km/hr.
velocity
the speed of an object including the direction of its motion. Ex: storms and planes
acceleration
the rate of change of velocity: change in speed divided by change in time.
negative acceleration
the change in acceleration when objects slow down
positive acceleration
the change in acceleration when objects speeds up
