ebola (virus)
Virus that is spread from animals to humans. It then spreads through contact with bodily fluids. Symptoms are at first flu-like symptoms that eventually cause internal bleeding, organ failure, and death
Bubonic plague (bacteria)
Bacterial Infection that comes from fleas. Causes swollen lymph nodes and eventually boils that break out with pus all over the body. Treat with strong antibiotics
Anthrax (bacteria)
Spread by animals or insects. Anthrax is a spore forming bacterium that can cause skin ulcers if transmitted through the skin or difficulty breathing if through the lungs. Skin infections are treatable with antibiotics, if inhaled, much harder to treat
E-coli (bacteria)
Bacteria that can be found in tainted or under-cooked meat. It causes stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and death if infection is severe enough
Malaria (Parasite)
Spread through the bites from infected mosquitoes. Symptoms are fevers, chills, and sweating. Can be prevented with protective drugs and a course of antimalarial drugs if contracted
Smallpox
(virus)
Extremely contagious. Spread from person to person with flu-like symptoms that then lead to a rash that spreads and disfigures the body with scars. Eradicated in 1980s
Hemorrhagic fever (virus)
Group of infectious diseases that interfere with the bodies ability to have blood clot. Symptoms can be fever, fatigue, and can turn into bruising or internal bleeding
Meningitis (bacterial, viral or fungal)
Infection of the meninges in the brain and spinal race. Symptoms are headache, fever, and stiff neck. Swelling of meninges on brain can cause damage to brain and death
MRSA (bacteria)
Bacterial infection that usually starts in the skin as a pustule that is warm to the touch. Bacteria can burrow deep into the body and cause death. Hard to treat because bacteria has evolved to become resistant to most antibiotics
brain eating amoeba (amoeba)
Contract disease through tainted water, symptoms start out as headache, nausea, chills and then gradually turn into stiff neck, hallucinations, and seizures. Most people die when they contract it. Anti-parasite drug effective in about 1/2 the cases
influenza (virus)
Common infection that results in vomiting, headache, fever, chills. Can kill elderly and young children with compromised immune systems
HIV/AIDS (virus)
Disease that kills the leukocytes in the body so that the body can't fight off any infections. Most people live normal lives until the body succumbs to a secondary infection
Tuberculosis (Bacterial)
Disease of the lungs that causes a cough and chest pain. Can be fatal if left untreated. Treated with antibiotics
Hanta virus (virus)
Disease from infected rodent droppings that causes aches, fever, and chills, later on the lungs fill up with fluid and cause death
cholera (bacteria)
Disease from drinking contaminated water that causes extreme dehydration and diarrhea. Can cause death very fast if left untreated
