Circle
A round plane figure whose boundary (the circumference) consists of points equidistant from a fixed point (the center).
Raduis
The distance from the center of a circle to any point on its circumference.
Diameter
A line segment that passes through the center of a circle and has its two endpoints on the circle. It also represents the length of such a line segment.
Chord
A line segment whose endpoints lie on a circle. A diameter is the longest chord in any circle.
Secant
A line that intersects a curve or circle at two points.
Tangent
A straight line or plane that touches a curve or curved surface at a point, but if extended does not cross it at that point
Point of Tangency
he point of tangency is the point at which a line touches an ellipse or circle, assuming that the line only makes contact at one point.
Central Angle
An angle that has its vertex at the center of a given circle.
Inscribed Angle
An inscribed angle is an angle formed by two chords in a circle which have a common endpoint.
Arc
A section of a circle that lies between two points on the circle. Any two points on a circle divide that circle into two arcs; the longer one is called the major arc and the shorter one is the minor arc.
Minor Arc
The smaller of the two arcs formed when a straight line or chord divides a circle into two unequal parts.
Major Arc
The larger of the two arcs formed when a straight line or chord divides a circle into two unequal parts.
Semicircle
Half a circle. A semicircle is bounded by a diameter and half of the circumference.
