National Stock Number
Uniform in composition, length, and structure. Each is represented by 13-digit number, which can be divided into 3 unique parts:

1. NATO Supply Classification (NSC) Code 2. National Codification Bureau (NCB) Code 3. National Item Identification Number (NIIN)
NATO Supply Classification (NSC) Code
The first four digits which relates the item to the group and class of similar items.
National Codification Bureau (NCB) Code
The next two digits indicate the assigning the National Codification Bureau.
NATIONAL ITEM IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (NIIN)
The final seven digits are assigned sequentially and have no inherent significance.
UNIT OF ISSUE CODE (UIC)
Two position code shows the smallest quantity of an item that can be requisitioned and issued
SHELF LIFE CODE (SLC)
One position code shows both the estimated period of time of item will remain serviceable and whether the shelf life can be extended
Item is determined through evaluation of tech data or actual experience which cannot be extended.
Item which can be extended after completion of inspection/ test restorative action.
CONTROLLED INVENTORY ITEM CODE (CIIC)
One position alphabetic/ numeric code which indicate security classification/ risk, pilferage controls required for storage and transportation
SENSENTIVE ITEM CODE (SIC)
Prior to disposal, all data plates tags stickers documents must be removed and destroy
ACCOUNTING REQUIREMENTS CODE (ARC)
One position alphabetical code which identifies the way an item is accounted thru Property Book Hand Receipt Stock Record Account.
D - Durable
Code identifies items which are not used up. Items also keep their identity throughout their life.
N - NONEXPENDABLE
Code identifies items which are not used up. Items also keep their identity throughout their life. The difference is that these items must be accounted for in the Property Book throughout their entire life
E - EXPENDABLE:
Code identifies items which will be used. These items may be type classified and have any cost.
Serviceable Condition Code "A" (yellow)
this is a new item and issuable to consumer w/o limitations or restrictions. The shelf life code is more than SIX (6) months.
Serviceable Condition Code "B" (yellow)
The nature and condition is used repaired and recondition item. It is issuable to customer for its intended purposes only and the shelf life code is three (3) months.
Serviceable Condition Code "C" (yellow)
Priority Issue. Items which are serviceable and issuable to selected customers only and it must be issue before condition code "A" and "B" to avoid the loss of the useable assets. The shelf life code is less than THREE months.
Serviceable Condition Code "D" (Blue)
Test and Modification. Serviceable materiel which requires test, alternation, modification conversion or disassembly and the item must be inspected tested immediately prior to issue. The shelf life code is THREE years. The
Unserviceable Condition Code "E" (green)
Limited restoration. Involves only limited expense or effort to restore to serviceable condition and repaired only in the location.
Unserviceable Condition Code "F"
require repair, overhaul or reconditioning of an item
Unserviceable Condition Code "G"
Incomplete materiel requiring additional parts or components to complete the end items prior to issue.
Unserviceable Condition Code "H" (red)
Unserviceable Condemned. Materiel which has been determined to be unserviceable and is due to economical repair.
Suspended Condition Code "J" (brown)
Material in stock which has been suspended from issue. Rendering condition classification or analysis where the through condition is not known.
Suspended Condition Code "L"
Stock hold pending court litigation or negotiations.
Suspended Condition Code "M"
Item is being suspended by manufacturer or contractor.
Suspended Condition Code "N"
Applicable to ammunition/air munitions.
Standard workmanship and detail description of the design and material used.
Pertains to the limiting reference variables (qualitative & quantitative) of QM items being tested.
