Written by Helen Hunt Jackson; chronicled the broken treaties and unfair treatment of Native Americans by the US.
Goal was to assimilate Natives. Gave heads of families 160 acres of land. Children were encouraged to go to boarding schools, speak English, and convert to Christianity.
Native American ceremony that envisioned the return of buffalo and removal of whites. Frightened many Americans.
