Accepted liberal ideas but wanted wider voting rights. Some wanted democracy. Urged reforms in interest of lower class.

Devised steam engine used for production that basically started the Industrial Revolution.
Separated work from the home, allowed manufacturers to introduce greater specialization of labor and more explicit rules and discipline.

French Revolution of 1848
Revolution that expelled monarchy for good and briefly established a democratic republic.

Revolutions that had liberal constitutions to modify conservative monarchies, social reforms that restrain industrialization, and end to manorialism. Nationalist revolts also occurred.
Discovered germs and revolutionized sanitation.
Granted the vote to working class men in 1867.

Supported industrial development and extend the powers of the parliament to please liberal forces. Later united most of the Italian peninsula under Piedmontese king.
Otto von Bismark
Worked w/ parliament and extended vote to all men. Later united Germany by defeating France.
American Civil War
First war based extensively on industrial weaponry and transport system. Simmered dispute over North and South rights and ended slavery.
Parliamentary deputies, no matter what platforms they professed, were transformed once in Rome to a single-minded pursuit of political office and support of the status quo.
