tapping a bone to assess the possibility of a fracture
compression test
compressing above and below an injury site to assess the possibility of a fracture
sulcus test
downward distraction of the humerus to assess stability, or the possibility of a sprain, of the glenohumeral joint

abduction of the arm followed by controlled lowering to assess the possibility of injury to the rotator cuff
impingement
compression of soft tissue between the ends of two or more bones because of tissue inflammation or bone displacement

compression of the supraspinatus tendon against the coracoacromial ligament to assess the possibility of impingement of the subacromial bursa
winged scapula test
flexion of the serratus anterior to observe for weakening of that muscle as indicated by a protruding scapula

inflammation of the tendon sheath
speed's test
stretching or lengthening of the biceps tendon to assess the possibility of tenosynovitis
valgus stress test
application of a medial force to the lateral aspect of a joint in an attempt to create a gap in the medial joint line, thereby testing the stability of the medial aspect of the joint
varus stress test
application of a lateral force to the medial aspect of a joint in an attempt to create a gap in the lateral joint line, thereby testing the stability of the lateral aspect of the joint

Phalen's test
compression of the median and ulnar nerves to assess the possibility of impingement of those nerves at the wrist
Finkelstein's test
stretching or lengthening of the thumb tendon to assess the possibility of de Quervain's disease, or tenosynovitis of the thumb tendon
ganglion cyst
a cystic tumor rising from a tendon, often on the back of the wrist, that creates a know beneath the skin
mallet finger
flexion of the distal interphalangeal joint of the finger caused by damage to the extensor tendon
