Atomic Number
The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.
Electron Cloud
area outside of the nucleus: where electrons are when they go around the nucleus of an atom
Mass Number
The total number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus.
Electrically-neutral particle of about the same mass as a proton present in the nucleus
An atom with the same number of protons and a different number of neutrons from other atoms of the same element.
A stable subatomic particle occurring in all atomic nuclei, with a positive electric charge equal in magnitude to that of an electron, but of opposite sign.
A tiny, negatively charged particles that moves around the nucleus of an atom.
basic substance made of only one kind of atom and cannot be separated by ordinary means
A group of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
Relating to the pattern in the periodic table of the elements of chemical properties; occurring at intervals
A class of elements characterized by physical properties that include shininess, malleability, ductility, and conductivity.
An element or substance that lack the properties of a metal.
An element that has some characteristics of both metals and nonmetals.
Transition Metal
Any of the set of metallic elements occupying a central block (Groups IVB-VIII, IB, and IIB, or 3-12) in the periodic table,
Noble Gases
Any of the gaseous elements helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon, occupying Group 0 (18) of the periodic table.
Alkali Metals
An element found in Group 1 of the periodic table.
Alkaline Earth Metals
An element found in Group 2 of the periodic table.
An element found in group 17 of the periodic table.
