Model
a representation or explanation of something that shows how it looks or works. People make big models like the solar system or small ones, like atoms and things that are impossible to see like black holes
Black box
any system that cannot be directly observed and easily understood (When you know what an object does, like a TV, but you're not sure how it does it)
Collaboration
Working together--when people get together and have a conference to work together and talk on a problem
Consensus
general agreement by most people in a group
Examples of black boxes
They can't be opened for a close look. Ex: the center of the Earth, atoms, the sun
Why do we create models?
To explain what things look like and how they work, based on information we have at the time
Why would you change a model?
If you get new information or knowledge, you change the old model.
Engineer
a person who uses scientific knowledge to design useful things
Conceptual model
It exists in a person's mind or is drawn out on paper
Physical model
It can be touched and can be smaller or larger than the actual system it represents
