1st Law of Motion
inertia: an object at rest or in motion mst stay at rest or in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
2nd Law of Motion
Force = mass x acceleration
3rd Law of Motion
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
Bernoulli's Principle
the faster a fluid (air) travels, the less time it has to exert pressure over any given part of that surface
What causes lift?
the differences of air pressure above and below the wing
what is stall caused by?
the separation of air flow from the wing's upper surface, causing rapid decrease in lift
Define weight
The force produced by the mass of the airplane plus gravity
4 forces acting on an airplane
gravity, lift, thrust, and drag
Parasitic drag
Caused by any aircraft surface which deflects or interferes with the smooth airflow around the airplane
Induced drag
Generated by the airflow circulation around the wing as it creates lift. Vortices acting at the downwash and the wing tip. Known as 'drag due to lift'.
Ground effect drag
Occurs close to the ground where the earths surface restricts the downward deflection of the airstream from the wing, decreasing induced drag.
pilot pressure
this is measured while the plane is moving
static pressure
this is measured at level flight when undisturbed
4 air speed types
indicated, calibrated, equivalent, true
which is more dense: cooler or warmer air?
cooler air is more dense than warmer air
which causes greater lift?
cooler air causes greater lift
the joystick controls what?
the roll and the pitch
the rudder peddles control what?
the yaw

General rule regarding converging aircraft of different categories, the least maneuverable aircraft has right of way
Balloon > Glider > Aircraft Refueling > Airship > Airplane / Rotorcraft
