Popular Sovereignty
People rule; people elect people to represent them.
The U.S. is a republic. The people exercise their power by voting for representatives.
Power is shared between the State and National government.
Separation of Powers
No one branch has too much power, it is spread out among 3 branches
Limited Government
The government only has the powers given to it by the constitution.
Checks and Balances
Ensures that the branches of government work together and no one branch has too much power.
Individual Rights
Rights that the government cannot take away. Bill of Rights.
