Why was there trade and commerce?
Mongols made the Silk Road safer, Italy is in the center of all trade routes and since inns were made travelers got shelter which increased trade and commerce.
How was there trade and commerce?
There was a new economy which led to coins coming back. Since each place had different types of coins, banks were invented to exchange coins, loan money, and finance businesses. These banks and the increase of trade caused merchants, craftspeople, and bankers to become rich. The rich people then spent money on buildings, universities, and art. Some city-states also specialized in certain products/services.
What were the results of this burst of trade and commerce?
Humanism first arose when Francesco Petrarch had an interest in classical culture and started searching for classical texts. Eventually (with the all the classical texts he collected), he created a large collection of ancient Latin and Greek writings, which he made available to other scholars.
How did Humanism start?
The belief Humanism had was that all people have the ability to control their own lives and achieve greatness.
What was Humanism's belief?
Mirandola created The Dignity of Man, where it explains that everyone is free to choose and is free as an individual (its the speech)
Dante created The Divine Comedy, where it explains that individuals matter (its a story about an individual going through the levels of hell)(The Divine Comedy is also the first book that was written in a local language)
Boccaccio created The Decameron, where it explains that people should live for today (a story of a group of people joking about and enjoying life during the time the black death existed, and they weren't worrying about death).
Who were the key people of Humanism and why were they?
The Church rejected humanist ideas and they were angry that they were questioned about their logic (by Humanists). Many Humanists were burned at the stake by the Church.
What was the Church's reaction to Humanism?
Arno River was a hub of cloth trade and banking and the Medici family became rich and spent on art. Artists, philosophers, poets, and many more also came to Florence.
How did Florence contribute to the growth of the Renaissance?
