Hot Mediterranean. Temps well over 30c, but coastal regions moderated by sea. Altitude and winds can also have cooling effect. Best vineyards in these places.
Viticulture concerns in Greece
Strong winds in islands to South East of Mainland can cause stress to vines.
Drought - especially in East as in rain shadow of Pindos Oros mountains.

Of which are grown elsewhere. Most PDO require native varieties although some international are planted.
Northern Greece in the Region of Macedonia. Vineyards up to 400m and are noticeably cooler than surrounding area. PDO is red wines from Xinomavro, which is often compared to Nebbiolo
H tannin and acid
Med colour which fades quickly to tawny
Lack fruit even in youth
Long-lived. Spice and earthy aromas with age.
Some changes in Winemaking now, with more colour and less tannin or new oak.
Northeast of Peloponnese near strip joining to Mainland. Red wines from Agiorgitiko. Altitudes range from 230-900 meters. Best fruit from the middle of this.
Best wines have deep ruby colour with high smooth tannins , L to M acid, sweet spice and red fruit. Great affinity for new oak and age well.
Volcanic island in Aegean Sea. Really strong winds mean unique basket training for vines. Fruit grows on inside. PDO is for red and white wines dry and sweet, but dry Assyriology has best rep. Perfume, ripe citrus, stone fruit balanced
With natural acidity. Sweet wines are Vinsanto. Late-harvested grapes are sun-dried for up to 14 days. Aged in old oak barrels for minimum 2 years, but often far longer. Luscious sweetness is balanced by high acid. Older wines show oxidative characters of caramel and nuts.
