DOC Vinho Verde location and climate
NW Portugal, near Atlantic with moderate maritime. Rain and it's associated risks (canopy going crazy, disease) is high.

DOC Duoro Location
80km east of Porto, and E of Vinho Verde. Marão Mtns to Spanish border.
Grapes of Duoro
Port and unfortified wines use same main varieties:
Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo)
Grape from Duoro used in Port and also normal wines. Considered highest quality of Duoro grapes. Intense colour, flavours, Tannin.
Dão location and climate
South of DOC Duoro, east of DOC Bairrada. Mountainous with vineyards on gentle hills and slopes bw 200-400M cold, wet winters, warm dry summers and high diurnal temps make for great climate.
Dão Wines -red
Delicate red fruit, soft tannins and high acid.
Dão reg grapes
Jaen (mencía in Spain)
Black grape grown in Dão. Deep colour, intense blackberry and strawberry
Dão white wines
Encruzado grape. Range from light and fresh to rich barrel-fermented.
Vinho Verde Alvarinho
Aka Albariño in Spain. 100% grape. Comes from Monção e Melgaço. Slightly higher alcohol and riper fruit.
Bairrada location and climate
West of Dão, almost to Atlantic Ocean. South of Vinho Verde. Maritime with rainy winters and warm summers. Rain at harvest proves tricky for late ripening varieties
Main black variety of Bairrada region. Late ripening with small thick skinned berries. Deep colour H tannin. Can be acidic and astringent if yields high.

Baga - most important
Large space. Spread over 8 sub-regions in SE Portugal. Overall warm but can differ throughout subregions. North is cooler and wetter. Center is hotter and drier.
Red blends - deep colour, high soft tannins, F body:
Whites: fruity and floral
Tolerant black grape with h tannin and spicy red berry.
H colour and tannin used in red blends in Alentejo.

Vinho Regional Alentejano
Based on DOC alentejano but far larger area and more loss laws, grapes allowed.
