Right side vs left side heart failure
Right - systemic so you get oedema in legs, fatigue, usually caused by left side failure.
Left - pulmonary so it backs up in the lungs, causes cough, breathlessness, pulmonary oedema and congestion
Why do nurses need to monitor serum potassium levels when a pt is taking dig. and a loop diuretic?
loop diurectics remove water from the body and can cause a depletion in potassium. They can cause hypokalemia and drop blood pressure. Low K+ can also cause irregular heart beat.
