Direct Variation

Linear Function (Standard Form)

Point-Slope Form
The equation of a non-vertical line that passes through the point (x1,y1) with slope (m) is:
y-y1=m(x-x1)
Slope-Intercept Form
The equations of a line with given slope (m) and y-intercept (b)

Volume of a Sphere
a three-dimensional solid that is perfectly round (ex: a ball)

Volume of a Cylinder
a solid, three-dimensional figure with a curved side and two circular, congruent bases that are in parallel planes

Volume of a Cone
a solid, three-dimensional figure with one vertex and one circular base.

Pythagorean Theorem
The Pythagorean Theorem describes the relationship of the lengths of the sides of a right triangle where any right triangle, the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs is equal to the square of the length of the hypotenuse.
a²+b²=c² ; a and b represent the legs and c the hypotenuse
Midpoint Formula
The midpoint M of a line segment with endpoints A and B is:
((x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2)
Basically, average your x-coordinates and y-coordinates
Distributive Property
For every real number a, b and c:
a(b+c) = ab + ac
a(b-c) = ab - ac
Outlier
a data value that does not fit the overall pattern of the data distribution. In the case of one-variable data, an outlier is a value tha tis more than 1.5 times the IQR above the third quartile or below the first quartile.
Interquartile Range (IQR)
A measure of spread of the middle 50% of a set of quantitative data; the difference between the upper and lower quartiles. IQR = Q3-Q1 or Upper Quartile - Lower Quartile
Standard Deviation
a numerial measure of spread that shows how much data values vary from the mean for a quantitative data set. A low standard deviation indicates that the data points tend to be very close to the mean, whereas a high standard deviation indicates that the data points are spread out over a large range of values. The process of calculating the standard deviation involves squaring the deviations from the mean.
Median
a numerical measure of center that describes the middle value of a data set.
Mean
a numerical measure of center this is the arithmetic average of the data.
mean = sum of data items / total number of data items
Measures of Spread
numerical measures that describe how much values typically vary from the center in a quantitative data set.
AKA: how far apart the data set is
Ex: range, interquartile range, standard deviation
Measures of Center
numerical measures that describe the typical value of a quantitative data set.
AKA: Trying to find the middle most value(s).
Ex: mean, median, mode
Exponential Growth
occurs when an exponential function has a b value greater than 1.

x-coordinates or values in a data set
Range
y-coordinates or values in a data set
Independent Variable
x-coordinates or values in a data set
The information is independent and does not rely on another variable to work
Ex: time
