Cochlea
The auditory portion of the inner ear
Tympanic Membrane
The thin, cone-shaped structure separates the external ear from the middle ear. Also known as the eardrum.
Malleus
The hammer-shaped small bone in the inner ear that connects with the incus and is attached to the inner surface of the tympanic membrane. Also known as the hammer
Incus
The anvil-shaped small bone that receives vibrations from the malleus and transmits these to the stapes. It is also known as the anvil
Stapes
The stirrup-shaped bone that receives vibrations from the incus and transmits these to the oval window. It is also known as the stirrup
External auditory canal
The tube running from the outer ear to the middle ear extending from the pinna to the tympanic membrane
Pinna
The visible part of the ear. It is also known as the auricle
Semicircular Canals
The three interconnected tubes located in the inner ear that are lined with cilia, contain endolymph, and help provide a sense of balance
Eustachian tube
The connection that links the nasopharynx to the middle ear
