Contest between four regions: John Quincy Adams, William Crawford, Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson.
Each person won their area, only jackson got one state in each section
But jackson didn't get majority of electoral votes - congress must vote.
The Corrupt Bargain
The house of representatives had to choose between the 1st and 2nd place finishers.
The house chose to elect john Quincy Adams, who named Henry Clay his Secretary of State. -- result of Clay's backroom dealings
Jackson referred to the election as this and began new campaign to avenge loss. -- "we" were robbed -- our voice deprived
