Key Concepts:
Terms in this set (17)
Maximum
The largest value in the range of a function or data set.
Parabola
A particular kind of mathematical curve-the graph of a quadratic function y=x2 +bx+c.
Input
The value put into a function
x-intercept
The point(s) where a graph intersects the x-axis.
X-Y Table
Represents pairs of values of two related quantities-the input values are listed first and the output values appear second
Cube Root
An idea similar to that of a square root, except that the root must be cubed
Domain
The set of all input values (x) for a function or relation.
Graph
A representation of numerical information spatially.
Absolute Value
The distance of a number from zero on the number line
Line of Symmetry
A line that divides a shape into two pieces that are mirror images of each other.
Equation
A mathematical sentence in which two expressions appear on either side of an equal sign (=) stating that the two expressions are equivalent.
Minimum
The smallest value in the range of a function or in a data set.
Function
A relationship in which for each input value there is one and only one output value. (The x-values are all different.)
Range
The set of all output values (y) for a function or relation.
Y-intercept
The point(s) where a graph intersects the y-axis.
Output
The value that results from applying the rule for a function to an input value.
Quadratic Function
A function that can be written in the form
F(x)=ax2 + bx + c, where A, B, and C are real numbers and A is a nonzero number.
