Mood
is the feeling created in the reader by a story or passage (sadness, joy, happiness, suspense)
Moral
a lesson taught by a literary work which is not always directly stated
Motive
a reason for doing something
Myth
a fictional tale which explains what happens in nature using gods and goddesses
Narrative
a story or a passage which is either fiction or nonfiction
Nonfiction
writing that tells about real people, places, objects, or events; it is true
Novel
a longer work of fiction with characters, plot, conflict, and setting; one story, not a collection of stories or poems
Onomatopoeia
the use of words that imitate sounds (crash, buzz, hiss, etc.)
Personification
type of figurative language in which a nonhuman subject is given human characteristics
Plot
the events that happen in a story
