Dorsal cavity
One continuous space formed by the skull superiorly and the vertebrae inferiorly.
Cranial cavity
It is formed by bones of the skull and houses the brain.
Vertebral canal
(spinal cavity)
It houses the spinal cord.
Ventral cavity
It is the largest of the cavities and is ventrally located relative to the vertebral column. It contains the thoracic cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity.
Thoracic cavity
It is enclosed by the rib cage, the sternum, and thoracic vertebrae. It includes the pleural cavity, pericardial cavity, and the mediastinum.
Pleural cavity
It is a cavity that surrounds each lung and contains a small amount of lubricating fluid called serous build that allows the surfaces that line the cavity to easily glide against each other during inhalation and exhalation.
Pericardial cavity
It is a cavity that surrounds the heart and contains a small amount of lubricating serous fluid that allows the surfaces that line the cavity to easily glide against each other during heart contraction and relaxation.
Mediastinum
It is not a cavity. It is the central region of the thoracic cavity. Many important structures such as the heart, esophagus, and aorta are located in, or pass through.
Abdominopelvic cavity
It is a large cavity that extends from the diaphragm to the pelvic floor.
Abdominal cavity
It is separated from the thoracic cavity by the diaphragm and extends inferiorly to the pelvic brim.
Pelvic cavity
It extends from the pelvic brim to the pelvic floor, and is much smaller than the abdominal cavity.

Is an imaginary flat surface that separates to the body into two parts.
Section
Is named according to which plane was cut.
Sagittal plane
It separates the body into left and right sides.
Midsagittal plane (median)
It separates the body into a left and right side that are of equal size, which means the plane is located along the exact midline of the body.
