Point
Has no dimension. A dot represents a point.
Line
a straight path that extends without end in opposite directions
Plane
A two-dimensional flat surface that extends in all directions
Collinear points
points that lie on the same line
Coplanar points
points that lie on the same plane
Line segment
A part of a line with two endpoints
Endpoints
points on the ends of line segments
Ray
A part of a line, with one endpoint, that continues without end in one direction
Opposite rays
two rays that have a common endpoint and form a line
Intersection
A point where lines intersect.
Postulate
something accepted as true without proof; an axiom
Coordinate
the real numbers that correspond to a point
Distance
The length of a path between two points
Congruent segments
segments that have the same length
Midpoint
A point that divides a segment into two congruent segments
Segment bisector
any segment, line, or plane that intersects a segment at its midpoint
Polygon
a closed plane figure formed by three or more line segments
Angle
A figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint
Segment Addition Postulate
If B is between A and C, then AB + BC = AC
Midpoint Formula
The Distance Formula
Used to find the distance between 2 points (x1,y1) (x2,y2).
Perimeter
Distance around a polygon
Area of a Triangle
The number of square units needed to cover a given surface
Area of a Square
The number of square units needed to cover a given surface
Area of a Rectangle
The number of square units needed to cover a given surface
Vertex
A point where two or more straight lines meet.
sides
the rays of an angle
Interior of an Angle
set of all points between the sides of an angle
Exterior of an Angle
all points outside and not on the sides of an angle
measure
To determine the size, amount, or degree of an object by comparison with a standard unit.
Acute Angle
an angle that measures less than 90 degrees
Right Angle
an angle that measures 90 degrees
Obtuse Angle
An angle that measures more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees
Straight Angle
an angle that measures 180 degrees
Congruent Angles
angles that have the same measure
Angle Addition Postulate
If B is in the interior of <AOC, then m<AOB + m<BOC = m<AOC
Angle Bisector
a ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles
Adjacent Angles
Angles that have a common side and a common vertex (corner point).
Linear Pair
A pair of adjacent angles whose noncommon sides are opposite rays.
Supplementary Angles
Two angles whose sum is 180 degrees
Complementary Angles
Two angles whose sum is 90 degrees
Vertical Angles
A pair of opposite congruent angles formed by intersecting lines
