DNA:
-double stranded
-The sugar in DNA is deoxyribose
-Has 4 nitrogenous bases
Thymine
Adenine
Cytosine
Guanine
RNA:
-Is single stranded (it looks like one-half of a zipper)
-The sugar in RNA is ribose
-Has 4 nitrogenous bases
Uracil (replaced Thymine)
Adenine
Cytosine
Guanine
3 types of RNA are:
Messenger RNA (mRNA), Ribosomal RNA (rRNA), and Transfer RNA (tRNA)
Messenger RNA (mRNA):
brings instructions from the DNA in the nucleus to the cell's factory floor, the cytoplasm
Ribosomal RNA (rRNA):
makes up the ribosome. Binds to the mRNA and uses the instructions to assemble the amino acids in the correct order
Transfer RNA (tRNA):
is the supplier. Delivers amino acids to the ribosome to be assembled into a protein
