Floor Plan

Set of regulations that ensure a safe and durable structure. Related to fire safety, health safety and geological and climate location of the build site.
Dimensions
Measurements found on a building plan that specify distances from one point to another.
Geographical location
A consideration of building codes due to flooding, earthquakes and other related disasters.
Climate
A consideration fo building codes due to flooding, tornados, and hurricanes and extreme temperatures.
Mortage
Method of long term financing that usually lasts 15-30 years
Construction loan
Short term financing that pays for the costs of construction. When the building is done the construction loan is converted to long term fianancing.
Financing
Method of paying for a construction project of existing real estate
Residential
Structures that are built for the purpose of housing humans either as single or multi family.
Commercial
Structures that are built for the purpose of conducting business.
Linetypes
Often called the alphbet of lines used to give definition to a construction drawing
Hatch pattern
A set of 45 degree lines that indicate cross-section or different types of materials
Stock house plans
Construction plans that are available to the general public through magazines or online distribution.
Custom House Plans
House plans that are drawn by an architect from a set of expectations.
Builder's plan
Plans that are consistantly used by a particular building company.
Building Contract
Legal agreement between builder and buyer to build/buy a specified structure.
Rough-in electrical
Installation of electrical wiring in a structure before inside walls are covered with sheetrock

Permission issued by the code enforcement to begin construction.
Certificate of occupancy
Final inspection of the building that allows public use of the building
City code enforcement
Part of city government that monitors and inspects the construction projects of a specified area.
Construction phase inspections
The job of code enforcement officers to perform on all construction projects as they progress to completion
object lines
Solid drawn lines that specify the shape of objects on a plan drawing
hidden lines
Dashed lines that indicate parts of a drawn object that are not visible
center lines
Broken lines that indicate the center of symmetry for objects on a plan
Typical
Usually identified by "Typ." it means that in most cases that use the information given.
Abstract of Title
Research done to prove that a piece of property is availble for sale.
Survey
A legal description of the boundries that define a particular piece of property

Architect
Degreed and licensed individual who designs structures based on form and function
Structural engineer
Degreed and licensed individual who used the architects plan and determines the way and materials needed to build the design

Excavation
The process of making changes to the topography of the land.
Foundation
The support mechanism of a structure.
Wall and roof framing
The process of building the skeleton of a structure
Exterior sheathing
The application of the outside covering of a structure.
Roof materials
Waterproofing used to cover the top of a structure.
Dry-in
The steps of building a house that brings it to a point to where the inside is not done but the outside is completed.
Interior sheathing
Process of applying sheetrock on inside framing.
