myth

legend
fiction - based on a real person or place, facts are stretched beyond nonfiction, exaggerated in a serious way
fiction
overall name given to imaginative or made up writing
non-fiction
overall name given to writing that is true
poetry
writing concerned with the beauty of language; written in verse; can be fiction or non-fiction
biography
non-fiction - writing about someone else's life
mystery
focuses on collecting clues to explain an unknown event; can be fiction or non-fiction
informational or expository
non-fiction -purpose is to inform about a topic; uses text features such as table of contents, index, glossary, photos, captions, charts, etc. to convey meaning
easy
books with lots of pictures and few words
series
contains more than one book, like Diary of the Wimpy Kid & Pete the Cat
realistic fiction
a story using made-up characters that could happen in real life
drama
tells its story through characters in situations that imitates real life, a story acted out
persuasive writing
writing that attempts to convince the reader or listener to adopt a particular opinion or course of action
