Largest part of the brain; composed of hemispheres. Controls conscious activities--intelligence, memory, emotions, voluntary muscle movement, personality

Corpus Callosum

Connects right and left cerebral hemispheres and maintains communication between them


Located in the back of the brain. Regulates posture, balance, muscle tone; coordinates voluntary muscle movement

Brain Stem

Composed of the pons, midbrain and medulla oblongata. Pons and midbrain act as pathways to different parts of the brain. The medulla oblongata controls involuntary activities such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure


Main site of sensory processing


Controls many activities relating to homeostasis such as body temperature, breathing rate, feeling of thirts, hunger. Works with the medulla oblongata

Pituitary Gland

"Master Gland", releases hormones that regulate other endocrine glands

Pineal Gland

Light-sensitive gland that regulates daily biorhythms and reproductive cycles
