Terms in this set (31)
ideation
the formation of ideas or concepts, usually done on an individual basis
brainstoming
produce an idea or way of solving a problem by holding a spontaneous group discussion.
Problem statement
is a short description of the issues that need to be addressed
design analysis
decision-making process in which the basic science and mathematics and engineering sciences are applied to convert resources optimally to meet a stated objective.
Sequential
forming or following in a logical order or sequence
Chronological
calculated in terms of the passage of time rather than some other criterion.
Algorithm
a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations,
specifications
a standard of workmanship, materials, etc., required to be met in a piece of work.
Evolutionary
relating to the gradual development of something.
state-of-the-art
refers to the highest level of general development, as of a device, technique, or scientific field achieved at a particular time.
concurrent engineering
method of designing and developing products, in which the different stages run simultaneously, rather than consecutively
incremental design
means that each successive version of the product is usable, and each builds upon the previous version by adding user-visible functionality.
spiral design
Based on the unique risk patterns of a given project, the spiral model guides a team to adopt elements of one or more process models, such as incremental, or evolutionary prototyping.
sustainable
refers to the integration of social, environmental, and economic considerations into product, process, and energy system design methods.
systematic
translate an operational need into system performance and configuration specifications
configuration
an arrangement of elements in a particular form, figure, or combination.
infrastructure
the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g., buildings, roads, and power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise
interactive
a method of designing and marketing new products in which development stages are run in parallel rather than in series, to reduce lead times and costs
root cause analysis
looks deeper into problems and find out why they're happening
infeasible
look deeper into problems and find out why they're happening
viable
capable of working successfully; feasible.
concept generation
process concludes with an array of product alternatives from which a final design is selected.
artifact
an object made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest.
prototype
a first, typical or preliminary model of something, especially a machine, from which other forms are developed or copied.
characterize
describe the distinctive nature or features of
dimension
a measurable extent of some kind, such as length, breadth, depth, or height
object line
the line by which a figure or object is defined or bounded
construction line
Very lightly drawn lines used as guides to help draw all other lines and shapes properly
Center line
a real or imaginary line through the center of something, especially one following an axis of symmetry.
section line
angular lines drawn at 45 degrees to indicate contact surfaces in a interior view drawing
Hiddent line
used to represent surfaces that are not directly visible in the orthographic view
