What event does the Gospel of Luke start with?
The first event is the angel Gabriel announcing to Zechariah that Zechariah's wife Elizabeth is pregnant with a son, who is to be named John. Zechariah doesn't believe it because Elizabeth is barren, and they are both of old age. Due to his unbelief, Zechariah becomes supernaturally mute until the baby (John the Baptist) is born.
