Greater than or equal to
The symbol ≥ , or a number that is the same as or above another number. Example 8 ≥ 7
Less than or equal to
≤ ; or a number that is the same as or below another number. Example 5 ≤ 10
Increase
To make something bigger (in size or quantity).
Decrease
Make something smaller (in size or quantity).
Less Than
The symbol < , Smaller. Example: 4 < 9
Greater Than
The symbol > , Bigger. Also, Example: 5 > 3
Compare
Determining if a number is equal to, greater than, or less than another number.
Sum
The answer in an addition problem.
Product
The answer in a multiplication problem.
Difference
The answer in a subtraction problem.
Quotient
The answer in a division problem.
Consecutive Numbers
Numbers that follow each other in order from least to greatest, with no gaps.
Variable
A letter used to represent one or more numbers.
Percent
Out of 100. One part in every hundred.
Mode
The number that happens the "most" in a set of data. Line the numbers up in ascending order and determine which one occurs the most
Median
The "middle" number of a set of data. Line the numbers up in ascending order and determine which one is in the middle of the data.
Mean
The "average" of the sum of the data: computed by adding up the numbers in a list and then dividing by the number of numbers you have.
Equivalent
Having the same value. Examples: 1 Dollar = to 100 cents 120 seconds = 2 minutes
Equation
A mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers and/or variables, AND an equal sign.
Expression
A mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers and/or variables, but no equal sign.
Range
The difference between the highest value number and the lowest value number in a set of data.
Ascending
Arranged from smallest to largest. Increasing (1 to 10)
Descending
Arranged from largest to smallest. Decreasing. (10 to 1)
Operation
A mathematical process. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division are examples.
Triple
To multiply by 3.
