Why did Americans fear a strong central government?
They remembered what it was like to be ruled by the powerful British government. The first plan he made was called the Articles of Confederation. They did not feel that this was strong enough so they created the constitution.
What are the 3 branches of government?
1. Executive Branch

the introduction of the constitution and the goal is to form a strong nation
What is the Bill of Rights?
A list of 10 amendments to the constitiution that list the rights of the people that cannot be taken away.
What are some of the rights promised in the Bill of Rights?
Freedom of religion, speech, and the press
Right to own weapons
Right to trial by jury in criminal cases and most civil cases
Protection from cruel and unusual punishment
What was the New Jersey Plan?
A plan suggesting that all states big and small send the same numbers to congress.
What was the Virginia Plan?
The Virginia plan suggest that the number of members in congress would be divided by the number of people in each state.
What was "The Great Compromise?"
A comprise of the New Jersey and Virginia Plans. Created two houses - the Senate and a House of Representatives. The Great Compromise saved the Constitutional Convention.
How are the members of the House of Representatives and Senate decided.
Both voted by the people.
Senate - has an equal number of representatives from each state
House of Representatives - the number of representatives from each state is based on population (how large or small the state is).
