Terms in this set (37)
A set of scripts
A set of instructions executed by the computer one at a time
top to bottom
Locations on the stage are specified by ____________.
The stage size is ___ ________ by ___ ________
480 pixels by 360 pixels
The process of testing, finding problems, and fixing them.
a block that tells the computer to do something like "move a sprite, say comething, change size."
Reporter block aka function
block that outputs a value (technically don't need input)
Using two or more functions together to do something cool
The _______ block is used as input to the _________ block.
block is used as input to the
block. Also known as a
composition of functions
because two functions are combined.
"if" and "if else" blocks that control which part of the code gets executed. The
is the diamond shape block in the if. The if is the code that gets executed when the condition is true.
The else is the code that gets executed when the condition is false.
Custom block allow you to...
make a single new
represent an entire
_________ is hidden inside the block (so you don't have to se all the details inside when you don't want to).
hiding details away
An algorithm is
a sequence of steps that are usually performed by a computer. Program algorithms by dragging blocks and snapping them together (in other languages its typed out)
An algorithm isn't
a computer program (it's not code) but rather a general description of the steps the computer should follow. The algorithm isn't specific to a particular language, once you have the algorithm you can use the language of your choice.
Two different meanings of "input"
such as "number of branches," which is set in the block definition. THis is called a
(or formal parameter.)
such as 6 for a hexagonal pinwheel, which is given each time the clock is used. This is called an
(or actual argument)
an infinite loop that goes on forever. Can sometimes be the result of a bug, but in some interactive programs, you want the program to run until stopped by the user.
For each time the
block runs the script inside,
it changes the value of the variable by 1, counting from the first input number to the second.
a program structure that repeats can be described as _________, __________, __________.
looping, repitition, or iteration
The for block gives you a
default variable, i (for index). You can change the name of this variable by clicking it. You then drag it and use it.
Polygon custom block:
Block that would be used to run the polygon custom block, drawing a hexagon with each side being 50 pixels in length
A measure of how fast a system transmits bits. Calculated by dividing # of bits sent by the amount of time it takes
pair of opposites
: YES or NO, A or B, 1 or 0
maximum transmission capacity, measured by bitrate
the number of bits
a system can transmit
time it takes for a bit to
from sender to reciever
Why is it important to communicate a timing protocol prior to sending messages
So that you can receive many bits without error
Pros and cons: electricity
Pros and cons: light
fast, no signal loss
expensive, hard to work with
Pros and cons: radio waves
Where is copper wire most commonly used? why don't we use it everywhere?
1. spectrum cable 2. usb cable not everywhere because it is slow and can have signal loss
Where is fiber-optic cable most commonly used? why don't we use it everywhere?
1. verizon fios 2. under the ocean not used everywhere because it's really expensive
Where are radio waves most commonly used? why don't we use it everywhere?
1. cell phone to cell phone tower 2. laptop to wireless router not used everywhere because doesn't transmit far.
a set of rules, especially for the transmission of data.
