Ratio
A comparison of two quantities by division
Rate
A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units
Equivalent
having the same value
Percent
A ratio that compares a number to 100
Integer
All whole numbers (both positive and negative) and zero.
Opposites
Two numbers that are the same distance from zero, but in different directions.
Absolute Value
The distance a number is from zero on a number line

equation
A mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign.
prime number
A whole number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself.

numerator
The number written above the line in a fraction. It tells how many equal parts are described in the fraction.

the vertical axis on a coordinate plane
quadrant
one of four sections into which the coordinate plane is divided
ordered pair
A pair of numbers that can be used to locate a point on a coordinate plane
cylinder
sphere
greatest common factor (GCF)
The largest factor that two or more numbers have in common.
least common multiple
The smallest multiple that two or more numbers have in common
reciprocal
two fractions whose product is 1. The numerator becomes the denominator and the denominator becomes the numerator.
improper fraction
a fraction whose numerator is larger than the denominator
mixed number
a number made up of a whole number and a fraction
variable expression
An expression that consists of numbers, variables, and operations
variable
A symbol used to represent a number that can change
exponent
A mathematical notation indicating the number of times a quantity is multiplied by itself.

a four-sided polygon
square
a quadrilateral with four right angles and four congruent sides
rectangle
a quadrilateral with four right angles and opposite sides are equal.
rhombus
a quadrilateral with four equal sides
parallelogram
A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides
trapezoid
a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides

the sum of the areas of all the faces of a solid figure
volume
The amount of space an object takes up
mean

range
Distance between highest and lowest number in a set of data.
