Describe the Nullification Crisis over the passage of the Protective Tariff.
A tariff was introduced in Congress, northern manufacturers favored a high tariff, southerners were against it, western congressmen sided with the north in order to get support from the Northern states for their favored issues, and the tariff was passed.
How did President Jackson deal with Native Americans?
He passed the Indian Removal Act, which forced Native Americans to move west of the Mississippi River.
Describe Manifest Destiny and give an example.
Manifest Destiny is the belief that Americans had a God-given right to al land of the North American continent and it meant the desire to spread the nation to the Pacific Ocean. An example is the Trail of Tears.
Why did Texans revolt against the Mexican Government?
Texans revolted against the Mexican Government because the Mexican Government outlawed slavery.
How did the President Polk and the US justify declaring war on Mexico?
Shortly after his election, Texas was annexed by Congress, and Polk sent American representatives to Mexico to offer to purchase additional Mexican territory, but Mexico refused. Polk interpreted the action sending American troops into a region disputed between Texas and Mexico as an act of war, and the US declared war on Mexico.
What were the results of the Mexican-American War?
The US easily defeats Mexico and Mexico is forced to turn over a huge portion of their country to the US. The war established an adverbial relationship between the US and Mexico and hard feelings have lasted into the 20th century.
