During the 1750's, a young soldier, George Washington and the men under his command were sent from Virginia to build a fort to protect the people from attack by the French and their Native American allies. The fort was located in Western Pennsylvania and was not well built. During the battle, the french and native american attack the fort and fight an irregular warfare in the forests. George Washington and his men don't know how to defend against this type of war, so they are forced to retreat. The significance is that this is the opening battle of the French and Indian war.
