Krebs Cycle (Citric Acid Cycle)
Takes place in the matrix (fluid) of the mitochondria. Pyruvate broken down further to release energy. 2 ATP gained, NADH and FADH2 are passed to the ETC, and carbon dioxide is produced as a byproduct. (See B on this diagram)
Electron Transport Chain
Step that produces the majority of ATP in cellular respiration. NADH and FADH2 are used to synthesize 32-34 ATP. Water is produced as a byproduct. (See C on this diagram)
