What do white line markings mean?
They separate multiple lanes of traffic going in the same direction, you may cross a broken white line, not a solid one
What do you do when moving lanes/passing vehicles?
You prepare for a "turn" 200 feet in advance, only move one lane at a time
On the highway which lane is slow traffic and which lane is fast traffic?

always yield the right of way to oncoming vehicles, NEVER make a u-turn on a curve in a road or hill, NEVER make a u-turn on an interstate highway
Describe how four way stops work
stop and look for oncoming traffic, the first vehicle to stop is the first to go through the intersection, if you arrive at the same time as another car, the driver to the right has the right of way
Describe how Roundabouts work
always yields to circulating traffic, counter clockwise, stay in lane you started in
Rural interstate highway speed limits
passenger vehicles may not exceed 70 mph, trucks that are 26,000 ppoundn and heavier may not exceed 65, vehicles may not exceed 60, (all of these rules are contridicted if the posted speed limit is more/less)
Urban speed limits
vehicles may not exceed 55 mph, non-divided state highway vehicles can not exceed 55 mph, country road vehicles may not exceed 55 mph, urban residential areas vehicles may not exceed 30 mph, in alleys vehicles may not exceed 15 mph, (all of these rules are contridicted if the posted speed limit is more/less)
what is the maximum/normal speed for a highway work zone
45 mph, 10 mph below the posted speed limit
What is the maximum speed for a school bus?
When not driving on the interstate or highway the maximum speed is 40 mph unless the posted speed limit is lower, The maximum speed limit on an interstate or highway is 60 mph or the posted speed limit
What should the distance be between you and the vehicle in front of you?
two to three seconds
What should you do when driving in winter conditions?
Always make sure your windows are clean before you leave, use your headlights, always allow your engine time to warm up before driving in cold conditions
What is it called when you are driving on oil, dirt, and water
hydroplaning, which is what happens when you are driving on wet roads
What do you do when you are driving with fog?
Drive cautiously at reduced speeds, headlights/flashing emergency signals should be used, use low headlight beams
When must headlights be used?
between sunset and sunrise, any other time that visibility is less than 500 feet, lower headlights are used when approaching withing 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle or when following within 200 feet of the rear of another vehicle
What do you do when you approach a flagger?
reduce your speed, when a red flag is extended horizontally you may proceed at a reduced speed once directed by the flagger, do whatever the sign/paddle/flag indicates
What is a cross buck?
it is a sign that marks the location of the railroad tracks, when displayed alone treat it as a yield sign, when displayed with a stop sign you must stop and be sure the tracks are safe before crossing
What vehicles are required to stop at all railroads (unless the railroad is abandoned) and what are the rules for that
all vehicles carrying passengers for hire, all school buses, all vehicles carrying explosives or flammable liquids, the rules are: the vehicle must stop not any closer than 15 feet or further than 50 feet from the nearest rail
When are you required to stop for a school bus?
When the red lights are flashing and the stop sign is extended, however, if you are on a highway and there is a median you dont have to stop if you are going the opposite way of the bus. You also do not have to stop if you and a school bus are traveling in opposite directions and the road has more than two lanes. The road also has to be seperated by a median
What is the fine for not stopping at a school bus
it can be 180 days in jail with a maximum fine of 1000 dollars
What do you do when you park facing downhill? uphill?
downhill, turn the wheels towards the curb, uphill, turn wheels away from the curb
What do you do after an accident?
stop, alert other drivers, move to shoulder of road, exchange info with other drivers, do not sign documents (unless from police), take pictures of scene, notify insurance agent immediately
