hieroglyphics
Ancient Egyptian writing system using picture symbols for ideas or sounds
Rosetta Stone
A stone tablet found in Egypt in 1799 that contained the same text repeated in Egyptian hieroglyphics, Egyptian demotic script, and Greek, thereby supplying the key to deciphering hieroglyphics
mummy
a specially treated body wrapped in cloth for preservation
papyrus
A tall plant that grows along the banks of the Nile that was used to make a paper-like material
social pyramid
a pyramid outline showing the positions of social classes according to their status in a society
peasant
a person who does farm work for wealthy landowners
elite
people of wealth and power
noble
a rich and powerful person; of high birth or rank
status
importance
