Physics Forces Test
Terms in this set (11)
How does the theory of field forces explain how objects can exert forces of each other without touching?
When their field interact
What is her weight and mass?
Her weight is zero, and her mass is the same as it is on Earth
Why is force a vector quantity?
They both have magnitude and direction
Two examples of field forces
Magnetic and gravitational
Can an object be in equalibrium if only one force acts on the object?
It can only be in equilibrium when there are no forces acting on it or 2 or more forces when the resultant acting on it is zero.
small car and big car collide.. which car gets the bigger impact force and car gets the greater acceleration?
According to Newtons 3rd law they both get the same impact force and the smaller car recives the greater acceleration bc of its smaller mass according to Newtons 2nd law.
A beach ball is left in the bed of a truck. What happens to the ball when the truck accelerates.
When it accelerates forward the ball shifts to the back of the truck bc of inertia.
2 forces from everyday life
kicking a ball and pushing a car up a hill.
Why does pushing downwards on a book across a table increase the force of friction between the table and the book.
You're increasing normal force by pushing down on the book. From the table causing kinetic force to increase.
Why does a skier accelerate and the Earth doesn't move?
The earth pushes back with the same force that causes acceleration. F=ma
Why do you have to pull down on a rope to move up the rope?
As the climber pulls down on the rope, the rope pulls up on the climber with the same but opposite amount of force.
