Hardware Terminology

Keyboard
an input device that enters data with letters, numbers, symbols, and special function keys.
Mouse
A device that controls the movement of the cursor or pointer on a display screen.
Monitor
A video device that displays data or images generated by a computer.
Printer
A device used to prepare hard-copy output.
Hard Drive
The primary computer storage device, which spins, reads and writes one or more fixed disk platters.
Digital Camera
A camera that records images digitally rather than on film.
Scanner
A device that scans hard copy and digitizes the text and/or images to a format that can be interpreted by a computer.
Laptop
a portable computer small enough to use in your lap
RAM
Random Access Memory; temporary memory. RAM is expandable, and resides on the motherboard.
USB key
(Universal Serial Bus) An alternate term for a flash memory-based USB drive.
