Additive Identity
Adding "0" to a number doesn't change the number
Multiplicative Identity
Multiplying by "1" doesn't change the number
Additive Inverse
adding opposites results in "0"
Multiplicative Inverse
Multiplying reciprocals results in "1"

Inequality

Arithmetic Sequence
a sequence in which each term is found by adding the same number to the previous term
Geometric Sequence
a sequence in which each term is found by multiplying the previous term by the same number
common difference
the difference between any two successive terms in an arithmetic sequence
common ratio
the fixed number that you multiply each time in a geometric sequence
exponent
tells you how many times to multiply the base number times itself
Volume
the amount of space inside a 3-d object
surface area
The combined area on all surfaces of a 3-d object
proportion
A statement that two ratios are equal
absolute value
The distance a number is from zero on a number line. ALWAYS POSITIVE
variable
a letter used to represent an unknown number
coefficient
the number in front of a variable
constant
A term in an algebraic expression that does not contain variables
square root
A number that when multiplied by itself equals a given number.
ratio
a comparison of two numbers, may be written as a fraction

a 4 sided polygon

a quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel

a quadrilateral with four 90 degree angles
Rhombus
a quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides

a quadrilateral with four 90 degree angles and 4 congruent sides
trapezoid
A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides.
right angle
an angle that has exactly 90 degrees
tax
an amount added to the cost of an item
discount
an amount subtracted from the cost of an item...a sale amount
tip
an amount added to the cost of a meal for the waitperson's service
sequence
A set of numbers which follow a pattern
pattern
a rule that when followed results in a sequence
diameter
the distance across the center of a circle
radius
half way across the center of a circles
rectangular prism
a box or a cube
cylinder
a can
multiple
a number times 1, a number times 2......
factor
a number that divides evenly into another number
ie: factors of 6 are 1,2,3 and 6

a whole # that only has two factors; itself and 1
